Previous years: 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008.
I wrote 6 stories in 2009, all in SGA:
My favorite thing about this year is that I wrote a little ficlet for the Dr. Rodney's Science Corner universe that
sloganeer and I cooked up, and then the fabulous
crysothemis joined in and wrote a whole story about John's boots (complete with artwork!) and then
thedeadparrot remixed that giving us Steady State (Finding Your Equilibrium Remix), and suddenly the universe is twice as big, and ten times as awesome. I love that.
I also had fun writing The Totally True Story of Two Men About to Have Sex. It was a commentfic, written on the fly, but I like how it turned out. It serves as a commentary on the impossibility of kink-free sex, while accidentally illuminating certain things about John Sheppard. He doesn't want to be loved too much! Or too weirdly! I stand by that.
Goals for next year: I signed up for
picfor1000, so that; I'd love to write it in a new fandom, maybe Psych. I have roughly a skillion
kink_bingo stories that either need to be finished or started. Mostly I just want to write some stories, and post them. Here's hoping.

Dr. Rodney's Science Corner | The King of Atlantis | Caught | Early | The Compromise of Living with Genius | The Totally True Story of Two Men About to Have SexI didn't write much this year. My anxiety issues got the better of me again and as writing is unfortunately a trigger in that regard I wrote less than I would have liked. I started a lot of stories I didn't finish, though, so next year I'll look super productive when I finally finish and post them. Here, let me list them in order of non-completion: The post-Return kicked-out-of-Atlantis story; the wet and messy/dirty sex story; the story where Rodney's grumpy; the story where John and Rodney kiss off-world; the obedience story; the Teyla story.

( The Ultimate Book of Optical Illusions, The Golden Globe, Frontiers, A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, The Beauty Myth, All's Fair in Love and Advertising )
That's it for this year! I read 72 books in 2009. How about some favorites?
Poetry: Ted Kooser's Valentines; it's about hearts -- about love and home and hearth and the less romantic aspects of the heart as well. I think I liked every poem in here. Kooser's got a simple, observational style that really does it for me.
Fiction: Tanya Huff's Smoke series was a lot of fun, with Smoke and Mirrors my favorite of the trilogy. It's a sexy, spooky locked-in-a-haunted-house mystery! With a gay wizard! What more could you want?
Non-Fiction: David Simon's Homicide, a must-read for fans of Homicide: Life on the Street or The Wire, but even if you're not a fan, the book's a gritty, sarcastic look at crime in Baltimore. The detectives might not be very fleshed out, but the writing is sharp and fast.
Graphic Novel: I liked the first volume of Ex Machina, but the later ones didn't keep up the level of awesome. They seem to be suffering from Advanced Chris Carter Mytharc Snydrome. But the first one was good!

You're Paper Mario! You're paper thin! So's the plot! Princess Peach has been kidnapped, again, and you're off to rescue her, again. It's a Mario game, what do you want?
Perhaps the awareness that girls play video games too? Oh, no? Okay.
( Sorry, Mario, but our princess is pressing charges. )
This is not your typical Mario game. Running and jumping only play a very small role. The story is nothing special, which is typical of a Mario game, but it has a clear point, and your goal is usually obvious.
I enjoyed the game, but its issues with women, and with Peach in particular, nearly ruined it for me. If you can ignore that, it's a long RPG full of puzzles, mazes, side quests, and about a dozen different environments to explore. I'd recommend it, but with a disclaimer.
